I'm Back and I'm on Fire!

Well I'm not on fire but my torch is working! Look how happy I am. Really I just melted something but I smiled for you. And I'm soldering in...

My new soldering station with ventilation to the outside! Built by my wonderful Grandfather. Thank you Granddad!

Here is my lovely torch set up. I'd been struggling with my tanks due to a leak in the oxygen tank, turns out the valve was cracked and had to be replaced by the professionals. Thanks to Joe and Matt for your help on that!

I also caught a deer fight on camera, it was a lot less violent than they show on the nature channel. They kept stepping back and just looking at each other. There were 5 bucks in my yard all at once. At one point it looked like 3 of them were going to fight at the same time!

Also here is what the deer do to my yard, they dig all through the snow and bring up dirt. No wonder the grass doesn't grow so well.

Well soon I'll have some of my own creations to show you! Very exciting!
I'm glad to be back, hope you're feeling the Holiday Spirit!

We live in the Snow Belt!

Well my computer is repaired. Yeah! But it's been snowing like crazy here! Turns out we are in the Snow Belt and actually we are the highest point of our county and should expect 5 feet of snow a winter. So I've been a little worn out trying to snow blow and shovel every day to keep our driveway clear. The blog will definitely be up and running by Monday. If I don't write have a fantastic weekend!

Birgit Laken

I really am drawn to this series of work by Birgit Laken. It seems from the link that she takes a photo (normally of a flower) and designs a piece of work off of each photo. I enjoy understanding her design process.

Short trip to Savannah Georgia

I've been flipping through some photos and found some from my trip to visit my sister in Savannah
Georgia from a few years ago. Thought you might enjoy them!

I love this plant and the pot, I believe it is a bougainvillea. We used some of these in my wedding!

This gate just cracked me up! With cat and mouse cut outs.

Although you shouldn't let ivy grow on your house I loved it on these front steps. I really enjoyed walking around Savannah, it's easy to take a nice picture there.

Go out and VOTE!

Crazy Politics: Tell me the truth please!

Tomorrow is the time to vote and all the politics are getting on my nerves. I know statically it works better to trash the other opponent but it's ridiculous. I've been listening to NPR have debates between candidates and advertisements on TV and it's driving me nuts. No one ever answers the questions. They just say, "I'll reach across the isle, America needs change,  blah blah blah" and things like that. Politicians talk a lot and say nothing. I think they should not be allowed to advertise, or have commercials. They should have a small write up about themselves and exactly what their plan is to help our area. I want details in the plan. And if they are going to cut spending what are you getting rid of? I'm intelligent enough to realize they all keep spouting BS and I'm getting offended that these politicians think I'm dumb enough to fall for their garbage:  "that other guy running against me sucks his thumb, don't vote for a thumb sucker." Really? Please start respecting your American public and tell us exactly what you plan to do to improve our area and our lives.

While I'm on this topic I'm also really tired of people lying on the news, TV and radio. People can say any crap they want and seemingly not get in trouble. Causing people to panic and worry about things that didn't even happen. If I ran into a building screaming 'FIRE' I would get into a huge amount of trouble for causing a panic like that. I believe if anyone lies in the media they should be fined. I want true and clear facts that are not tainted be either political party. Thus the reason I read 'American' news from an Australian website. I find their news to be about the facts, whereas the American news stations/websites are all about fear. Every year there is a new disease that will kill all of us, and so on. If people, broadcasters, politicians, celebrities, whoever lie publicly and spread false information they should be severely fined in proportion to how much money they have to make sure it hits home. No one should stand up spouting things out of their mouth without having done research. I don't believe everything I hear or read, I sadly need to look into what's going on in the news and make sure someone didn't make it up. It shouldn't be that difficult to read the news, now we have to research the news? It's just crazy.

With our local politics I am greatly concerned about the Levy's. Around here people can vote whether or not to give the local schools money. I believe if I heard right the last 16 times people have voted no. I know some people say my kids are grown why do I care, I don't have money for other people's kids. Guess what, the kids in school right now are your future doctors, politicians, teachers and so on. If we don't improve education everyones' future is looking bleak. Education is everything and I worry that the levy will be shot down once again. I'm also for life long education and it starts when kids are in school.

Please make sure you take a some time to research the candidates and make an informed voting decision you can be proud of. Go out and VOTE!

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to share some photos I've taken this fall. Above is a photo from labor day weekend of my back yard. We were trying to catch all the deer but only got a couple in the picture.

In the last 2 weeks I have seen two beautiful rainbows!

I picked most of the apples off of our apple tree, some are stored and some were turned into apple pie and apple crisp! Yum! I eat oatmeal for breakfast and I add a little of the apple crisp to it and it's so good!

For the most part in the fall our woods turn a beautiful shade of yellow.

Here is a picture looking down what we call the 'cliff edge' to the stream.

While on the lower part of our property I was looking in one of the large gullies and saw a little pink flower.

I got closer and saw this huge plant and several others. I had thrown them off the cliff edge when they were little because the deer where eating them down to stubs. Somehow they took root and are growing great!

I am amazed this tree is still hanging on! Powerful roots!

Have a super Halloween and enjoy the candy!

Hoover & Strong & SNAG Harmony Jewelry Design Competition

Hoover & Strong & SNAG are working together to have a production jewelry design challenge, I like this one! Here is some of what you need to know:
Create a piece of well-designed and well-crafted piece of jewelry for production within specific pricing, production, and profitability criteria.

•The design must represent an environmental concept. Recycling, Conservation, Renewable Energy, Environmental Clean-up.

•The wholesale cost of the jewelry item must be no more than $25 including materials and labor.

•The item must have retail appeal.

•The item should be designed so it can be worn alone or with multiple related items. Optimally, H&S would like to see a jewelry system designed where this year’s jewelry item could fit together with future year’s items that could all be worn together.

The Due date is January 15th 2011 and the rest of the details are here.

Bottle Tree

Have you ever heard of a bottle tree? My Mom was doing research about them and she's wanted one for a while. Apparently one legend says to put a bottle tree with bottles outside your house to catch bad spirits so they don't come inside. The bottle trees above and below are from Texas Bottle Trees.

This bottle tree is the one my Granddad made for my Mom! I can't wait to see it with bottles on it.
