Very original Bridal Rings

This organic multi band ring with organic diamonds is by Boaz Kashi. This ring feels poetic how the vines have grown around and entrapped the little organic diamonds.

These lips are from Stephen Webster's second collection Superstud. The line was inspired by Punks and their lives.

The line reminded me of when I went to the Salvador Dali Museum and saw the Mae West Lip's Sofa. The entire room was furnished with recreated parts of her face.

Here's the view where it all comes together.

Golden Honey

Who doesn't love honey comb made of gold and yellow sapphires? My favorite part of the piece by Nicholas Varney is the realistic honey bee.

Baby Racoon are you Rabid?

Lately I've been seeing this little guy wondering around the yard during the day.

He'd look cute and shy at first.

Then he started to stand his ground.

He took a defensive position.

And then hunched like he was going to pounce. At that point I decided I'd be getting things done inside the house. He was right outside my back door and he soon wondered off.

I want these Book Shelves!

By golly I have plenty of books to fill them!

I love this Quad Book Shelf even better. Now where to put it? : )
It'll look really good in my imaginary house for now.

Beautiful Chain

Since the first time I saw the jewelry of Amali I loved it! Her use of chain rocks!

Home Project

I've been waiting for nearly a year to put family photos up on this wall. I had a lot to frame and then frames I had to pick out family photos for.

Below is the after. I'm pretty happy with it! Joe and I both have caricatures on the wall which I love. In the middle we have a really nice wedding photo of us taken by my sister Kelly. Then many other wedding photos she took. And vacation photos! Yeah!

Is it 2D or 3D?

As soon as I saw the explosive quilts of Doodle Press I was in love. The creator, Cara Gulati, designs this line of quilts called 3-D Explosion. Well named!

Great work by Wendy McAllister

My friend Wendy McAllister makes the most interesting brooches. I've shared some of her work before. She is inspired by botanical themes.

Wendy Says, "The seductive, temporal nature of flowers with their quirky technicolor architecture clamors for my attention as an artist."

I've admired Wendy's work for years and am glad to see new work!

Brain Bender with Katie Mullins

Last week I attended one of the Ohio Jewelry & Metal Art Guild Brain Benders. Basically it's a get together of 10 people (members or non members) and the teacher shows us how to do a technique. The teacher for this Brain Bender was Katie Mullins of Bonya's. So we learned to do a little piece of box chain. (these are not images of what I made)

We also made a piece of Byzantine Chain.

And then we made a piece of Full Persian Chain (love the colors in this one!) After we all tried making a small section of chain we then discussed how to incorporate this technique into our own work. It was a really fun way to share ideas and brainstorm! The Brain Benders cover many topics and are taught by various people and cost $15 to $25 depending on if you're a member. Go to the Ohio JMAG website and make sure you are on the email list so you'll hear about the next one. I had a lot of fun!

The Niche Awards are open to the public. There is a Professional (Due August 31st) and a Student Category (Due September 20th). Check out the website for more details and if you enter, enter professionally taken photographs. If they are blurry you aren't going to win.  : )

The image above is the winner of the 2010 Fabricated/Forged Category Chihiro Makio or 314 Studio. The piece is entitled Pactola Lake Teapot. To see more of last years winners click here.

Have a great weekend and Father's Day and go out there and support the Arts!

Zippers into Jewelry...

Kate Cusack uses zippers in her jewelry. She wanted to feature the zipper since it's normally used as a shortcut.

I really like this zipper bracelet.

Announcing the Diamond Dash!

I was just reading an article the other day about a jewelry store that was having a 'Diamond Dash' which is a scavenger hunt event that sends couples through the local streets of the store in hopes of taking home a diamond engagement ring for free.

Then I was listening to the radio yesterday and the local jewelry store, Alson Jewelers is having a Diamond Dash on July 10th! You must apply to participate in the hunt at this site. Participating is free, wahoo! I'm assuming they are looking for couples that are about to be engaged. That way they're collecting contact info for the younger generation to help get them in the store buying rings.

A flawless $15,000 diamond ring has been hidden in Cleveland! Clues and riddles will be delivered to you via text message. Tell everyone you know, this sounds like the best scavenger hunt ever!

Takohl Earth Ring

I saw this crazy ring in Instore Magazine and thought it was a fun concept just to get customers talking. It is a wearable growing ring that is housed in the glass terrarium when not worn.

The other day i saw the work of Pink Crow Studios on Etsy and I love it!

Playful Furniture

I was searching for interesting tabletops when I came across this 'lego table'. I love it!

Then I found LunaBlocks. This company makes giant connectible toys out of plastic, glass, metal and so on.

I especially love the glass!

If you haven't seen the polymer clay jewelry of Elise Winters, where have you been? I love her jewelry especially this Skinner Inner Brooch.

A Jewelry Ink Blot Test

What do you see? I see a fish in this brooch by Daniel R. Spirer. Or maybe a comet.

A multitude of things...

Since I've gotten home from school I planted a vegetable garden at the side of our house. I took a picture to show you the awesome dirt garden that it currently is. I'll take more pictures once something grows. I had to put a fence up around everything with netting because of the deer.

I just found out an hour ago that I won the Simpler Living book giveaway, she's sending me a book called Starter Vegetable Gardens. Thanks so much Naomi, I love reading your blog and simplifying my life!

Good news, the deer do not eat daisies!

I have so many front doors to my house (2) so I got a new cute door mat.

We have a bunch of these flowers blooming in the back yard, do you know what they are?

Last week Joe and I took a Thai Dinner Party class at the Viking Cooking School. In this picture is the Tahi Beef Salad with Lettuce Cups, Tom Kha Gai (soup) and some Steamed Jasmine Rice. The soup was my favorite, I love coconut milk.

Next we made Pad Thai with Shrimp, I learned how to flip food in a wok, so much fun! And this is the first time I have enjoyed tofu, it was really good in this dish.

For dessert we had Mango Sorbet, we didn't make it but they did give me the recipe!

I just had to share a photo of this car I saw in a parking lot this weekend, it was filled with Eeyore's. I don't know how this person could legally drive with so much in the windshield. There was also a licenses tag that said something about Eeyore, and a bumper sticker that says only my cat understands me. Made me laugh!

Last night I cooked my first live lobster, I sent him to lobster heaven the most human way I could. There was some screaming from me involved but I did the job and made the tasty Lobster and Mushroom Risotto we learned to make last week. Yum!

That's what I've been up to, I'll probably have some great news to share with you soon but I don't want to jinx things.

Map Inspiration

The jewelry of Anna Lindsay MacDonald is inspired by maps. Anna wants to engage the wearer with their own neighborhoods.

I too love maps and have made jewelry inspired by them. It's fun to take the crazy lines and use them to create shapes.

Twirling twisting Vines

So Young Park creates sculptures that are also jewelry, I love her vines. To me it looks as though the vines are about to move and wrap around your wrist.

I get my car back today! Wahoo! It's all repaired but now the Air Conditioner in our house isn't working so I might be stuck home anyway. Oh well, in theory I can drive whenever I want. I hope you have a great day!

Polymer Clay

Kathleen Dustin makes exquisite polymer clay jewelry. I don't know that I'd even want to wear it, I think it deserves a really nice display! Kathleen also makes fantastic purses. Her color choices are so bright but go well together. I've never worked with polymer clay but I can see that she has practiced for years and years!

So another busy day. I've been without a car for a week and a half and I think I might be able to pick it up today! Yeah! I'm going to work on cleaning up the backyard and working in the office. When we bought our house last August the previous owners left what looks like a nice grill so I'll hook up the propane and see if it works! Yum, I'd love a burger!

Yesterday I mailed 203 resumes with cover letters. I went on and found jewelry stores that might be a possibility for me to work for. Cross your fingers for me!

Kiwon Wang

I have loved Kiwon Wang's paper pearl series for a longs time. The pearls are on little gold stems and can be moved. Jewelry is meant to be played with!
