Happy Halloween!

I wanted to share some photos I've taken this fall. Above is a photo from labor day weekend of my back yard. We were trying to catch all the deer but only got a couple in the picture.

In the last 2 weeks I have seen two beautiful rainbows!

I picked most of the apples off of our apple tree, some are stored and some were turned into apple pie and apple crisp! Yum! I eat oatmeal for breakfast and I add a little of the apple crisp to it and it's so good!

For the most part in the fall our woods turn a beautiful shade of yellow.

Here is a picture looking down what we call the 'cliff edge' to the stream.

While on the lower part of our property I was looking in one of the large gullies and saw a little pink flower.

I got closer and saw this huge plant and several others. I had thrown them off the cliff edge when they were little because the deer where eating them down to stubs. Somehow they took root and are growing great!

I am amazed this tree is still hanging on! Powerful roots!

Have a super Halloween and enjoy the candy!

Hoover & Strong & SNAG Harmony Jewelry Design Competition

Hoover & Strong & SNAG are working together to have a production jewelry design challenge, I like this one! Here is some of what you need to know:
Create a piece of well-designed and well-crafted piece of jewelry for production within specific pricing, production, and profitability criteria.

•The design must represent an environmental concept. Recycling, Conservation, Renewable Energy, Environmental Clean-up.

•The wholesale cost of the jewelry item must be no more than $25 including materials and labor.

•The item must have retail appeal.

•The item should be designed so it can be worn alone or with multiple related items. Optimally, H&S would like to see a jewelry system designed where this year’s jewelry item could fit together with future year’s items that could all be worn together.

The Due date is January 15th 2011 and the rest of the details are here.

Bottle Tree

Have you ever heard of a bottle tree? My Mom was doing research about them and she's wanted one for a while. Apparently one legend says to put a bottle tree with bottles outside your house to catch bad spirits so they don't come inside. The bottle trees above and below are from Texas Bottle Trees.

This bottle tree is the one my Granddad made for my Mom! I can't wait to see it with bottles on it.

Tap Studios / Gallery M: an art jewelry workshop

Friday night I attended the Topograhpy of Metal exhibition at Gallery M that I mentioned about a week ago. Above is the work of one of the owners, Todd A/. Pownell.

The show was a great deal of fun and as I walked around the gallery/studio I felt a strong sense of deja vu. Turns out I was in this gallery years ago when I came to Cleveland for a SNAG Conference. I didn't know at the time that I would eventually move here.

Here are three rings from the show by Kim Baxter. I had a great time talking with her and really loved the size and intricacy of these rings!

Overall it was really fun to attend the show, if you haven't been to Tap Studios/Gallery M you need to check it out. Even if you have never made jewelry they have a class where as a couple they help you make rings for each other. I really liked that one! And they have more classes that look like good!

Cleveland Auction Company: Durham Collection of Contemporary Art

Yesterday Joe and I attended the Cleveland Auction Company and saw the Durham Collection of Contemporary Art be Auctioned. Since this was related to one of Joe's cases I could not bid which was probably a good thing. We had a great time watching the action at the auction. There were phone bidders and Internet bidders competing with people that were present in the room. One phone bidder bought over $100,000 Peter Max works. In total the collection sold for over $400,000!

Above is a picture from the Akron Beacon Journal of the viewing party Tuesday night, I'm in purple on the left! Joe was also interviewed in many papers and on the news to drum up publicity for the event.

Joe and I had such a great time that I think we are going to attend more of the auctions by the Cleveland Auction Company.

The Sketchbook Project

I came across this interesting project I wanted to share called The Sketchbook Project. Anyone from anywhere in the world is welcome to pay $25 for a sketchbook (pick a theme from the website) fill it with your inspiration and send it in to be part of the show. After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view.

You need to sign up for it by October 31st and the sketchbooks are due in January so get moving!
Leave me a comment if you're going to do the project, I'd love to know what theme you pick.

Designer Dress Days in Cleveland!

I just heard about this event on TV, Designer Dress Days at the Mandel Jewish Community Center, Stonehill Auditorium, in Beachwood Ohio. Basically they are selling gently used designer dresses, handbags and much more to raise money for something. I've really gotta run or I'd tell you more. I'd also love to go but the budget won't allow it right now. Maybe next year! If you go please leave a comment, I'd love to hear what you think!

Kent State Alumni Jewelry Exhibition

Thru October 30th Kent State is having a show for its Jewelry/Metals Alumni at the Downtown Gallery. Joe and I attended the opening Saturday night and had a lot of fun. It was great to see jewelry by Keith Lewis (this link has sexual content), Megan Auman and Michelle Pajak-Reynolds and many more! Next store is McKay Bricker Gallery which has lots of nice artwork, I met them at the Buyers Market Show this past August. At the BMAC Show they were handing out bumper stickers that said 'BUY ART'. I had put the bumper sticker on my car and didn't realize until we were at the gallery Saturday night that my sticker was from McKay Bricker Gallery. What luck!
