Original Sewing & Quilt Show at the IX Center Cleveland Ohio

Happening through Sunday, I'll be there tomorrow! Valerie Mayen from Project Runway will be there as well, selling some of her work and giving a talk.

M.C. Escher

Last weekend we attended the M.C. Escher exhibit at the Akron Art Museum. Akron, OH is one of two cities in the United States that get to show this exhibition and then the art goes back to Europe. What an honor! Joe and I loved it. Joe bought the image, Drawing Hands, above.

I really liked the slow metamorphosis of birds into fish. I could see this as a really wicked tattoo, the white areas being the white of my skin. There was another version of this piece in the museum that gave the fish more character, reminded me of the fish on my studio floor.

Joe also bought an M.C. Escher tie so he would wear some artwork! I really wanted to buy a deck of M.C. Escher playing cards, I collect playing cards but sadly they didn't have any.

The exhibit ends May 29th, don't miss this exhibit, it's extraordinary!

What's up?

I've been busy doing many fun things. I want to post about them but for some reason I can't load an image onto the blog. Anyway I found a cool article about a group of people teaching and helping others fix things that break. Rather than always buying a replacement. It sounded cool. I always feel accomplished when I figure out how to repair something. My next projects is repairing our outdoor water faucets, they leak out of the handles when I turn them on.

I also read an article today about How to not be so critical of yourself. The best comment in that post was, "Be as Kind to Yourself as you are to a Stranger." I really liked that and I'm definitely not that nice to myself. A good strategy to work on.

Last I found this great page with pictures of 'Circus Trees'. You definitely want to check it out.

What have you been up to?

Ariane Hartmann of Germany

I found the work of Ariane Hartmann on Klimt02. The main idea of her work is that 'Jewellery is a piece of life.' The pieces I'm showing are from her motto collection. The piece above looks like word tentacles from a jelly fish.

The piece above makes a reference to angels.

And this is the back of the piece about angels, I love it when the back and the front are both beautiful!

Blogs I love...

I read a lot of different blogs and really enjoy reading Crafting an MBA Business thinking for designers and makers. Megan, who writes the blog, shares great information on running a business. Which is what many of us designers/artists/makers don't know as much about. Good to follow and she has great book suggestions.

Recently I found out that the jewelry supply company, Rio Grande has their own blog. The Studio Rio's Blog has all kinds of interesting information and posts on a variety of topics. I actually found a post I wanted to share, they are having a jewelry haiku contest and there are prizes to be won. Good luck!

Another one you should keep a link to is Dude Craft. Every time I go to his blog I see the greatest art that I want to share with everyone. He finds some really cool art projects that I don't see other places.

Have a happy Sunday, don't miss reading the PostSecret Cards for today.

The Ecoist will be giving away a purse on Monday!

The Ecoist, a company I love, is giving purses away to people who like them on Facebook! I'm sharing this because the purse below is the one I bought about a year ago. I have gotten more compliments on this purse than all my other purses combined. It's made out of food wrappers and it's very strong and sturdy. So far the Ecoist have saved more than 40 million food wrappers from going into landfills. The company is also fair trade and employs workers in an impoverished community in Peru to make the handbags.

And I just found out they plant a tree for every bag sold! I just love them more and more. On the website you can sign up for 10% off your first order, and don't forget to go to their Facebook Page and click Like for a chance to win one of the purses above.

More Snow?

So yesterday we received another gift from the sky, snow! Cinnamon seems to love playing in it. Though she doesn't like getting hit with snow balls. : )
If you want to see some hilarious photos of me go check out Kelsi's Closet Jewelbox Design Journal, I help out with some of her Tool Time Tuesdays! I was trying to be Vanna White but I don't think I was as successful.

Only a few days left buy tickets and win $5,000 in Rio Grande Tools & Supplies!

The website, The Ganoskin Project is selling tickets for a raffle. There are only 1,000 tickets being sold and two of those tickets will each win $5,000 towards Rio Grande purchases. Also the money from the sale of tickets goes to help The Ganoskin Project continue. Each ticket you buy you then get to pick half of a jewelry related ebook to download. So all around it's a great thing and your chances of winning are way better than the lottery!

Browsing Klimt02

I love browsing through Klimt02 and finding really fun jewelry. This brooch, made by Karen Bartlett, is made of Silver, gold plate, stainless steel, citrine, cubic zirconia and rubber bands. It reminds me a little of a roller coaster.

Buyers Market of American Craft February 2011

About 2 weeks ago my boss and I attended the Buyers Market of American Craft Show as exhibitors and I wanted to share some of my finds!

While at the show I bought a great necklace by Liztech. They recycle old costume jewelry to make something new. The shiny silver surface behind the brass parts really makes the pendant sparkle. I saw one of my friends wearing one and just had to go check them out.

I bought Joe a ledge lizard from Sculptures by Stepper, he's so cute! We had a great time hanging out with the Stepper Brothers and I can now tell them apart (they are twins) but I'll probably forget by the next time I see them. Sorry guys!

I also bought this gorgeous goldfish ring from Manya & Roumen, oh wait, sorry, that was a dream. I want to buy this goldfish ring from Manya & Roumen. They turn their nature-inspired illustrations into intricately carved wax models. They were the booth next to ours and made the most amazing jewelry. It really makes a statement. They were great neighbors to have! Manya also publishes children's books.

I changed my profile picture last night and in the picture I'm wearing VolerAVolar earrings by Sonia Lub. They are my favorite earrings! Sonia's father took that picture of me that I'm using for my profile, Thank you Sergio!

Overall the show was great, I heard lots of positive feedback on the floor from other exhibitors. One thing they might not emphasize when selling you a booth at the show is the lifelong friendships you start. The show has started to feel like a family reunion to me. It's just wonderful to be around so many talented, creative and giving people.

I saw these brooches on Klimt02 made of silver and agate by Ralph Bakker.
