What qualities do you want your jewelry to have?

A while back I went through my image bin (a huge bin of jewelry/art images I save to use as inspiration) and found ones that had qualities and elements that would inspire me when I get stumped on a design. The board started out a mess and then...

It all came together!

Some close up shots, I love perspective and optical illusion in jewelry. You'll notice I write notes on all the images so I remember what caught my eye, this is also how I sketch.

The large emerald cut ring has a crack in the band filled with pave diamonds, definitely nice!

The pair of earrings in the middle of this image have stuck with me, Changing out one stone for a different color really catches the eye!

And most of all have fun with it!

What qualities or elements do you want in your jewelry?

Roller-Coaster Sculpture

I just cleaned up an old Welding sculpture I made from college back in 2005. My goal with this sculpture was to have many, many weld joints to practice. I love how it looks like some crazy Roller-Coaster sketch.

I put the image in to make it easier to see.

And then I took away the background noise. Can you see one spiral that makes me think of the Fibonacci Spiral?

You can rotate this piece 380 degrees and see all kinds of new lines!

Old Glory Inspiration

My friend Melissa Muir and I assign each other homework assignments. It's so much easier to do something when you are accountable to someone else. This past homework assignment was to draw and sketch with inspiration from Old Glory our United States of America Flag. I used Pinterest to create an inspiration board and then printed some of the photos that I put in my sketchbook.

As you can see I write a lot when I sketch, when I can't necessarily draw what I'm thinking I just write it out. That way the ideas aren't lost.

I particularly liked the sketch above. of 13 stripes holding 50 stars below them. What would you use to make the red and white stripes?

I just loved this flag image above, an abstract flag. Made me think of Jackson Pollock.

Here I got a little crazy and in the top sketch the stripes began to turn into tentacles and grab a flag pole. I am very inspired by optical illusion so I was combing flags with that theme. It was a fun them for the 4th of July!

While visiting my parents I got to watching the Evening Primrose bloom at night as the sun was going down. They are beautiful flowers and open so quickly, I wanted to share with all of you.

My Mom's fish ponds

Two weeks ago I visited my family down in Maryland for a week. I hadn't shared photos of my Mom's ponds in a while. They were beautiful!

I loved the reflection of the sky with the pond plants and koi.

I brought some of these purple verbena flowers home, they grow higher than my waist!

We caught a frog chilling in a mini pond.

And a lily bloomed!
